Diocese of Brooklyn

Office of Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs

Fostering Unity And Dialogue

Our Mission

The Office for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs (EIA) is dedicated to fostering Christian unity and interfaith understanding across the Diocese of Brooklyn. Guided by the teachings of the Second Vatican Council, the Holy See, and the USCCB, the EIA serves as a bridge between the Bishop, Diocesan offices, parishes, and diverse faith communities, including Jewish, Muslim, and Buddhist neighbors. Our mission is to embody the spirit of ecumenism and interreligious dialogue, as expressed in John’s Gospel: “That they all might be one” (Jn 17).

We engage with a wide range of audiences, including laity, parishioners, lay apostolates, priests, deacons, parishes, schools, and the media.

Our Work

Dialogue and Friendship: We represent the Diocese in dialogues with various Christian and non-Christian communities, fostering friendships and mutual understanding.

Committees and Collaboration: The EIA hosts committees of clergy, religious, and laypersons to promote theological and social dialogue, seeking collaborative solutions for the common good.

Educational Outreach: Our team, consisting of experienced priests, religious, and lay Catholic leaders, serves as speakers and resources on ecumenical and interreligious topics, offering guidance to parishes, ministries, and individuals.
