The West Indian and Caribbean Apostolate reaches out to people who were born, or whose parents/grandparents were born in the predominantly English-speaking countries of the Caribbean (including the English-speaking countries of Central America – Belize and South America – Guyana).
Their culture is very vibrant, coming predominately but not exclusively from western Africa, largely as a result of the Slave trade and escapes or stop-offs from the trade in the aforementioned islands. There was a tremendous amount of interracial family development. It is heavily influenced by the African tradition, food, and dance.
Participation in the West Indian Parade celebrations around Labor Day in New York is a significant part of the West Indian and Caribbean Apostolate’s activities (quite similar to the Carnivals which take place in many of the aforementioned countries).
The apostolate has taken part in assisting with education for our young people by sponsoring scholarships.
