Nurturing The Spiritual Leaders Of The Diocese Of Brooklyn
Overview
At the Office of Clergy Personnel, our mission is to plan, develop, execute, review, and deliver support to the Ordinary, the Vicar General, the Vicar for Clergy and Consecrated Life, the Personnel Assignment Board and all the clergy of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn, their parishes, and diocesan agencies, through the maintenance of proper databases, reporting control and support.
Format
The Office of Clergy Personnel functions as part of the Clergy Personnel System and is staffed by The Secretary for Clergy Personnel, and The Executive Assistant, who assists the Secretary with the administration of the daily functions of the Office for Clergy Personnel, and two Administrative Assistants, one in charge of the daily duties of the Hospital and Healthcare Chaplaincy Program and another who is in charge of the daily run of the non-incardinated short-term priest’s division, including the processing of Religious Visas (R-1) for non-incardinated, religious, and lay ministers.
Functions
The Office for Clergy Personnel’s focus is to facilitate the work of the Personnel Assignment Board and the Office of the Ordinary, as it relates to the assignment of priests, and to oversee the assignment of permanent deacons. The Office for Clergy Personnel also aids those involved in the clergy personnel system and the care of all clergy needs. It oversees those practical matters associated with the clergy personnel assignments in addition to maintaining and managing the affairs of the OCP. With the use of several databases and filing systems, it keeps a detailed file and information of all priests and deacons assigned to ministry or residence in the Diocese of Brooklyn, as well as diocesan priests who are ministering outside the diocese and abroad. The Office for Clergy Personnel works very closely with the Offices of the Ordinary, Vicar General, the Chancery, Safe Environment, and Human Resources Medical, to process all the required documentation and make sure that the assigned clergy complies with the policies and processes of the diocese for their ministry.
Intra-Agency Relationships
On the day-to-day operation of the Office for Clergy Personnel, the office will interact with agencies and individuals such as:
Office of the Ordinary

In addition to the above agencies, there is a daily need, according to operations, to interact with Human Resources, the Chancery Office, the Vicar General, the Moderator of the Curia, the Regional Episcopal Vicars Office, and DeSales Media.
Service
The Office for Clergy Personnel is dedicated and is responsible for the orderly handling of all matters pertaining to the placements of incardinated priests, permanent deacons, long-term and short-term non-incardinated priests ministering in the parishes and agencies of the Diocese of Brooklyn.
It serves and functions as a liaison between priests/deacons and the Ordinary of the Diocese of Brooklyn, between the priests/deacons and the Personnel Assignment Board, and between the Personnel Assignment Board and the Ordinary of the Diocese of Brooklyn.
